We create sustainable programs that empower the community

Corporate Social Responsibility

With many people’s livelihoods upended by corona virus, more families than ever are in need of food. It is with this realization in mind that we have purposed to feed 3,000 families in partnership with Centum’s Greenblade Growers. We will be supporting them with care packs that include dry foods, soap and oil. If you’d like to feed a family, you can donate a KES 999 hamper to paybill number 7186491 with your name as the account name.

COVID-19 Pandemic – Community Support

As we settle into our troubling yet temporary new reality, we as Centum Foundation have purposed to support the needy and vulnerable among us, to better equip them to endure and mitigate the adverse effects of the Corona virus.

To this end, in partnership with Two Rivers, we’re supplying our immediate community of Githogoro with 40,000 litres of fresh water. Up to 10,000 families can now observe good hygiene practices required to curb the spread of the virus. Installation of the water pipes from Two Rivers to the Githogoro settlement is now underway with support from the are chief and Githogoro youth who are digging trenches for the water pipes.

The COVID-19 pandemic marks an unprecedented time in modern history that will require the best of humanity to overcome. Our contribution as Centum Foundation to this fund will support immediate and long-term relief and recovery in vulnerable communities during one of the most challenging times we have collectively faced.

Vipingo Development Scholarship Fund

The Vipingo Scholarship Fund was launched in January 2017 to provide at least 50 scholarships per year to bright and needy students from Kilifi County who scored over 350 marks in KCPE.

In FY18/19 we sponsored over 152 students at a total cumulative cost of over KES 10 million to-date and we aim to sponsor a total of 300 students by 2020 amounting to a total of KES 50 million (cumulative).

During our annual prize-giving and scholarship award ceremony for all our scholarship beneficiaries, the Centum Foundation in partnership with Longhorn Publishers (a subsidiary of Centum Investments Company plc) donated a total of 3,000 textbooks to the students valued at over KES 4 million.

Vocational Technical Training Programme

In July 2018, Vipingo Development together with Mkwajuni Polytechnic School launched a fully sponsored Vocational Technical Training programme. The programme is aimed at equipping youth from the local community with technical skills that would enable them to competitively engage in gainful employment within and beyond Vipingo Development. The training is undertaken by trainers from Arc-Skills, a globally accredited institution and part of GEM education.

The first class of 50 students graduated on 24th September 2018. 30 of the graduates have since found gainful employment with four currently working for Vipingo Development. The second class is currently in training.

To respond to the learning needs at Mkwajuni Polytechnic, the host of our Vocational Technical Training Programme, we donated 100 chairs to the institution on 22nd October 2018.

Infrastructure: Vipingo

Vipingo Development has also committed to upgrading learning facilities within primary schools in the area. To date, we have erected new classrooms for two schools: Makonde and Timboni Primary schools.

Staff CSR Volunteer Program

We officially launched the Centum Staff CSR Volunteer Program dubbed Centum Champions in July 2018 to create a platform for all staff to engage in the ongoing CSR activities across the Centum Group.

The first event where staff participated was the Mathari School Sports Day held at Two Rivers where staff spent the day engaging in sports activities with the children and also donated other items towards the welfare of the students namely books, stationery, sanitary towels, toiletries, dried foodstuffs etc.

Mathari school sports day at Two Rivers

The Sports Day marked the official launch of a long-term sports program within the school during which the Two Rivers and Centum Foundation teams donated sports gear and shoes for each child and sports equipment to the school including footballs, netballs, rugby balls and hand balls.

The Two Rivers staff and Centum staff donated other items towards the welfare of the students namely books, stationery, sanitary towels, toiletries, dried foodstuffs etc.

The Two Rivers Mall tenants, external partners and other Centum subsidiaries also partnered with us for the event, namely Mister Wok (subsidized breakfast and lunch), Bata Shoes (discounted sports shoes for each child), Coca-Cola SABCO (provided free sodas and water), Swarovski (donated dry food stuffs and sanitary towels), Tribus (free security and safety services) and Kubamba Crew (gospel entertainment).

Mathari School ERP Software System

In line with our internal position around continued support of the new Mathari Primary School, we have donated laptops from Centum and procured an ERP system from Bunifu Technologies to ease with administration and management of the school.

Through the ERP product we will greatly help the school in automating, streamlining and simplifying the following administrative processes including but not limited to Cash flow management & receipting, Student Data management and Exam & report processing.
